Working with our partners Shawton Energy, we provided design and planning support for a large-scale roof photovoltaic scheme across various buildings in Wigan & Leigh College's estate.

Due to rising energy prices, education establishments are exploring options to reduce running costs. Rooftop PV schemes offer numerous advantages, including reduced electricity bills by generating power on site and decreasing reliance on the grid. It also promotes environmental sustainability by lowering carbon footprints and utilising clean, renewable energy.

The scheme has been fully implemented across several buildings and provides both energy and costs savings for the college client. They are able to access live data to indicate the performance of each PV cell and the total output — a great learning tool for the estates team and also the students.
